Your Resume: So how long do Employers take to read it?
A recent article in my regular newspaper reviewed some research done recently about resume reading. Evidently a number of company ‘Personnel’ officials had been asked about their methods for selecting candidates and in particular, how long they had spent with each resume.
The average time spent mulling over each resume for any one position turned out to be seven minutes!
This means that, on average, you have seven minutes, without being there in person, to convince a prospective employer that you are the perfect person for the job.
Remembering that this is an average we have to consider that the reality falls anywhere from zero to fourteen minutes, but to err on the side of safety lets assume it’s five minutes.
Five minutes to read, digest, mull over and consider your application. Does your resume have enough information and fire power to win the five minute race?
